It has been nearly a year since we saw anything official regarding Netflix’s first live-action spinoff of The Witcher called The Witcher: Blood Origin set 1200 years before Henry Cavill’s Geralt and starring Michelle Yeoh, Laurence O’Fuarain and Sophia Brown. The last piece of official news was a teaser shown after the credits of the final episode of The Witcher Season 2.
Today that changes as Netflix has revealed the official teaser poster and the release date for The Witcher: Blood Origin along with more news.
The Witcher: Blood Origin coming to Netflix this Christmas
Yes, you read that right, the release date for The Witcher: Blood Origin is indeed December 25, 2022 as we reported it back in May. Sometime later, Netflix users reported that their app had the December 25 date as well, but that was swiftly removed. In any case, the date isn’t a surprise, but a welcome confirmation.
As you can also see above, we see two hands that belong to Laurence O’Fuarain’s Fjall and Sophia Brown’s Eile. Their weapons are crossed and connected to each other, just like their fates, it looks like.
Additionally, the cast revealed that Oscar nominee Minnie Driver has jouned the cast of The Witcher: Blood Origin as Seanchai, “a shape-shifting collector of old lore with the abilities to travel between time and worlds.” It is our undertsanding that she’ll be the mystery figure correcting Jaskier in his present-day retelling of the story.
If you recall, we reported last year that in the present day, Jaskier attempts to tell the story of Blood Origin, but he is soon corrected by an audience member, who tells him that’s not how it happened. That must be Minnie Driver’s Seanchai.
