One of the most impressive new additions to the cast of the second season of The Witcher was Chris Fulton’s Rience, who brought fire and blood to those he confronted, including Henry Cavill’s Geralt, Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer and Freya Allan’s Ciri, who he’ll face once again in Season 3. But it appears that Fulton’s appearance as Rience was only limited to Season 2.
New season, new Rience
We have learned that Chris Fulton will no longer play Rience in The Witcher. Instead, the character will be portrayed by Sam Woolf. Woolf’s credits include episodic roles in Strike, Theodosia, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla as well as young Prince Edward of Wessex in the upcoming fifth and sixth seasons of Netflix’s The Crown.
In fact, the new Rience has been under our noses the whole time since he was photographed in Wales filming a fiery fight scene with Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri.

The images are small and too far away to see that it wasn’t Chris Fulton. Besides, we mostly see the burnt side of his face, which is covered by a layer of heavy makeup. Even now, knowing that it’s Sam Woolf, it’s hard to tell the difference, to be completely honest. Perhaps because Woolf and Fulton have a very similar facial structure.
This is definitely surprising news, especially with the photos above. As to why the change occurred, it’s hard to say, but could be a scheduling conflict. In any case, we can’t wait to see the new Rience in action.
Season 3 of The Witcher is in production until September 2022 for a 2023 release. The live-action prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin is in post-production after two weeks of reshoots and is currently eyed for a Christmas 2022 release.
