The Witcher Wrap Delayed as Season 3 Temporarily Films Without Henry Cavill

After a brief break caused by Henry Cavill testing positive for COVID, Netflix’s The Witcher is back in production since last Friday and has been continuing with its filming of Thanedd coup, the series’ most ambitious sequence yet.

Henry Cavill skips two weeks of filming and wrap date gets pushed back

Although filming continued, Henry Cavill hasn’t been back to the set with the rest of the cast due to his ongoing recovery from COVID and therefore some of the filming schedule had to be rearranged taking his absence into account. As a result, the production this week focused on scenes that do not involve Geralt.

This led to a slight delay regarding the planned wrap date for The Witcher Season 3. For the last month, we’ve been hearing August 26 as the final filming date, but now it’s been pushed back to early September. As we predicted before, the COVID situation didn’t disrupt the production too much.

But worry not, Henry is alive and well and spends time with the love of his life – his PC. As the tradition goes, whenever Cavill gets sick or injured, he proceeds to tinker with his PC. This time is no exception.

That said, unfortunately for Henry and his gaming, he should be back filming sooner rather than later as the wrap date only got pushed back a week or two.

Thanedd Must Go On

As for the filming, it still involved the mages the last week. Particularly Anna Shaffer (Triss), Therica Wilson-Read (Sabrina) Cassie Clare (Philippa Eilhart), Mecia Simson (Francesca), Lars Mikkelsen (Stregobor), Rochelle Rose (Margarita) Ryan Hayes (Artaud Terranova), Safiyya Ingar (Keira Metz), Aisha Fabienne Ross (Lydia), Poppy Almond (unknown) and Harvey Quinn.

UPDATE; We now know that Harvey Quinn is playing Radcliffe of Oxenfurt, who was the advisor of King Demavend and an ally to Philippa Eilhart during Thanedd.

Some of them confirmed their presence on set via social media and hinted at some intense scenes being filmed. Filming also continued to use dancers, other extras and stunt people for the Thanedd scenes.

What’s also interesting in the above photos is that Mecia Simson‘s Francesca is seen wearing boots instead of a dress. That indicates that some of the scenes they filmed over the last week included those, where the elves joined the party.

As mentioned before, there’s plenty of work that can be done that doesn’t require Henry Cavill’s presence for some time.

As a last tidbit for today, here’s an outside look at the Season 3 town set, which is used for Gors Velen and other towns in The Continent in the season. As we know, in episode 3 or 4, we’ll see a certain scene taken from the books that includes Ciri and a wyvern. More on that here.

Season 3 of The Witcher is in production until September 2022 for a 2023 release. The live-action prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin is in post-production after two weeks of reshoots and is currently eyed for a Christmas 2022 release.
