Andrzej Sapkowski’s iconic Time of Contempt novel has plenty of scenes and sequences that most fans of The Witcher should look forward to seeing in Season 3. The biggest is, of course, the Thanedd coup, which is being filmed now. But there is one more out of these memorable sequences that we know we’ll be seeing in the middle of the upcoming season.
Back in June we reported that Fabio Sachs had been cast in The Witcher Season 3, which implied the inclusion of the very exciting and memorable sequence in Gors Velen, where Fabio takes Ciri for a tour around the town and they end up attending a show involving a “basilisk”. Of course, that wasn’t a basilisk, but a wyvern.
In the show, this event will occur in a Gandja Monteiro episode, who directed episodes 3 and 4 of the new season. Now we know a few more players in this episode:
The Banker
We have learned that Belgian-Italian actor Giuseppe Lentini is set to portray the banker dwarf Molnar Giancardi in The Witcher Season 3.
In the books, Giancardi was an acquaintance of Yennefer’s after she saved him and his family during the Vengerberg pogrom. As a result, Molnar was forever grateful to Yennefer and would help her when he could. And help he did.
In Gors Velen, at the request of Yennefer, Molnar pays Ciri’s tuition for the Aretuza school and raises Geralt’s pay for a contract he was engaged in at the time. All that happens after Giancardi tasks his young employee Fabio Sachs to show Yennefer’s young ward around the town, while the grown-ups talk business.
Lentini’s work includes such projects as Mobsters, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Artemis Fowl, House of the Dragon and more.
The Charlatan
Just recently we revealed that actor Martyn Ellis would portray someone named Barker in The Witcher Season 3. It turns out that Barker is actually the charlatan in Gors Velen, who tries to pass a wyvern as a basilisk to the clueless audience of his show. Little does he know, there’s a young witcheress among them, who knows this is not a basilisk.
Ciri calls him out on his lies, Barker gets irritated and at that moment the wyvern breaks out of its cage. Luckily, Ciri has her sword with her and she kills the wyvern. Ciri does get blamed for the incident by the people and they run away with Fabio, only to be found and stopped by Tissaia de Vries and Margarita Laux-Antille.
Speaking of Margarita, we have the first sighting of Rochelle Rose with some of the mage cast after a hard day of work. It’s evident that she, Cassie Clare (Philippa Eilhart), Lars Mikkelsen (Stregobor), Ryan Hayes (Artaud Terranova) and Harvey Quinn (unknown) are working closely together on the Thanedd scenes these days.
Season 3 of The Witcher is in production until September 2022 for a 2023 release. The live-action prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin is in post-production after two weeks of reshoots and is currently eyed for a Christmas 2022 release.
