The long-awaited Resident Evil series premiered on Netflix on July 14, and some are already wondering whether or not the Lance Reddick and Ella Balinska-starring series would get a second season. Today we’ll try and bring more clarity to the matter.
Writing has begun for Resident Evil Season 2
We have learned from our sources that writing is underway for the second season of Netflix’s Resident Evil with most of the first season’s writing team returning.
This means, if renewed by Netflix, filming for the second season could start perhaps in late 2022 or early 2023, with possibly a late 2023 or early 2024 target release date, but it’s way too soon to talk about that. There’s still the question of renewal.
Will Resident Evil be renewed or cancelled by Netflix?
Although the next installment is being written, it’s future is still unclear. Just because Season 2 is in development, doesn’t make it exempt from cancellation, especially knowing Netflix. To add to that, the response from the viewers has been very mixed to negative, so the streamer will certainly take that into account as well when making a decision to renew or cancel.
Moreover, Netflix has been known to cancel series that have been well into the development of their next seasons. Series like The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, The Irregulars and more.
Bottom line is, based on all the reactions both from critics and audiences, even is Season 2 of Resident Evil is being written, Netflix can’t ignore the reception and will have to take that into account.
What do you think of Netflix’s take on the Resident Evil franchise? A worthy successor to Paul W. S. Anderson’s movies and last year’s Welcome to Raccoon City?
Nevertheless, there’s also our main focus, which is Netflix’s The Witcher, so if you’re interested in news regarding the Henry Cavill series, do check out our main page.
