Production for the third season of Netflix’s The Witcher is in its final stretch, with only about ten days of filming remaining. And yet, the Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan series still has work to do, including out on location.

A few days ago we reported that filming would take place in the Guildford Cathedral for episodes 7 and 8. We didn’t know at the time what it would be used for, but made a few suggestions. And one of them was correct.

Nilfgaard is coming

As we suggested in our last piece, the cathedral could be the throne room of Loc Grim, Emperor Emhyr‘s summer residence. Now we have a confirmation as the banners inside the cathedral can be seen showing the Nilfgaardian golden sun.

In the books, it’s in Loc Grim that False Ciri is brought to the emperor. We believe that in the show False Ciri is portrayed by Frances Pooley and the girl’s real name is Teryn.

Interestingly, Pooley has already been on set months ago, approximately for episodes 3 or 4, directed by Gandja Monteiro. Perhaps, we’ll see Teryn introduced earlier in the season and brought to Nilfgaard later.

It is our understanding that filming is not yet taking place in the Guildford Cathedral as only preparations are being made there for now.

The place will be closed until September 9, so we believe Netflix will be filming the Nilfgaardian scenes for The Witcher Season 3 there from September 5 to 8, and 9 will be dismantling and cleanup day.

Season 3 of The Witcher is in production until mid-September 2022 for a 2023 release. The live-action prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin is in post-production after two weeks of reshoots and is currently eyed for a Christmas 2022 release.
